Learner experiences
Our students kindly shared these reflections with us. We hope their words encourage you, and that your own learning journey will be just as rewarding. That is the experience we strive to create in every course—with patient teaching, steady progress and support along the way.
In 2024 I was privileged and blessed by Allāh (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) to have found the Madīnah Arabic course run by Ustādhah Jenya...
Learning Arabic (Fuṣḥā) with Jenya's tutelage has been a positive life-changing experience. The lessons have been designed with remarkable attention to small and the most important of details. The progression through complex concepts and ever-increasing vocabulary has been totally painless, I have advanced in my Arabic language skills without any frustration at all, whilst managing a home, studies and 3 young children. Ustādhah Jenya's knowledge is strong, her articulation of concepts is easy to understand and her patience is one of Allāh's blessings upon her. I have gone from beginner, to understanding most of what I read in the Qurʾān, ḥadīth or Literature at a basic level in 2 short years, 1 lesson a week.
My name is Umm Nuh, I am a convert of about 12 years Alhamdulillah. I started this course at a beginners level, having been exposed to Arabic from the Qurʾān and it's translations, speech in general from my husband, and any stray words from lectures or reading.
When I signed up to Arabic lessons with Jenya, I could not imagine how much it would benefit me and how much I could learn about Arabic grammar and why it is so important to learn it this way. Arabic is not just a language, by learning the grammar, you get a sense of something extra, a deep wisdom that I have been privileged to witness. For example, learning the root letter system in Arabic, gives you as a learner a taste of the mysteries of this inspiring language and why it is the language of the Qurʾān. Learning the case endings will give you a sense of pride and mastery over Arabic grammar.
The books are set at such an incremental pace that the increasing difficulty is totally imperceptible. You will start on a children's book and before you know it, you will climb chapter by chapter into learning Arabic. Now I can sit in any lecture or hear the discussions of any book and participate at a meaningful level. It is as if the author of the Madīnah Arabic series has mastered the course, pouring his life's effort into it, providing a deep structured framework that will re-wire the language pathways in your brain. It would be a shame for any student wanting to learn Arabic for them to learn with any other book or system. This is THE system!
Ustādhah Jenya is a force, her dedication to Islām, her sincerity to the growth of her students, her mind-blowing way of teaching and explaining and her remarkable patience are her adornments . She is more knowledgable about Arabic grammar and it's language than most other native Arabic speakers, that is to say, for example, whilst a native speaker may be able to speak Arabic and maybe even has learnt its grammar rules, she has learnt it in a clean and precise way that she dictates with full conviction and ease, knowing secrets of the language only a select few do in this world. This means that I can already handle a native Arabic speaker in a scuffle about grammar. That is much fun.
The classes are incredibly easy to manage. You have to believe me on that! From someone who is not always confident they can do 'it', from someone with 3 very noisy kids, and a lot of washing, and a lot of other commitments and personal goals, from someone who has taken breaks and slowly crawled back up again, if I can do it, you most certainly can do it, by the will of Allāh.
I thank Allāh for the blessing of allowing me access to this course, and to have met my wonderful teacher, and for the great satisfaction I get from knowing more Arabic, it is my treasure!
It comes sometimes when words won't do justice. Usually those times are when something is so true, so clear, so good, that's words would mar it. This is one of those times!
As a revert who has tried many different Arabic courses before, this is by far the easiest one I’ve found to stick to.
I love how thoughtfully the books and course are designed. They make revision easy and really help with retaining what you learn. I also really appreciate the verbal component, because you’re not just reading and writing. You’re actually practising conversational skills that you can use in real life.
The grammar concepts are introduced gently, making them easy to understand, follow and apply without feeling overwhelming.
The teacher is amazing at explaining the concepts and is very patient with students. We are currently learning via Teams and have access to live lessons or to well-organised saved recordings for all the different lessons. The workload is achievable even for busy homeschooling mothers like myself.
Overall, I’ve found this course practical, enjoyable, and much easier to stay consistent with than other courses I’ve tried.
As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh (السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ).
I have been a regular student of the Al‑Fuṣḥā Madīnah Arabic course since 2024.
At first, the course was offered in person once a week. Now we attend online. Other than a weekly class, we do our workbook homework and submit it.
This course is a beautiful blend of self-paced study and a regular class.
We have a week to submit our homework, but sometimes I fall behind. Still, this course embraces me and I get back on track.
Sister Jenya is so polite. Her method of conveying the knowledge is so encouraging, and I find it easy to join our class once a week and then have a whole week to do the workbook.
The workload is manageable and, at the same time, a little bit challenging, which is crucial to keep us pushing through the course.
This course is given by Allāh as a blessing; the only fee is our enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.
Bārak Allāhu fīki.
