Insān and rajul in the Qurʾān
Precise choice of words in the Qurʾān
When Allāh subhanahu wa taala addresses people in the Qurʾān usually the word Insaan is used. It is usually translated as a man , irrespective of gender.
For example:
يَآأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡكَرِيمِ
"O man! What has made you careless about your Lord, the Most Generous?"
(Al-Infitar 82:6)
Yet, in the Āyah Al-Ahzab 33:4 Allāh instead of the word " Insaan " uses the word " Rajul " - also translated as a man, but denoting male gender.
مَا جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لِرَجُلٍۢ مِّن قَلْبَيْنِ فِى جَوْفِهِۦ ۚ وَمَا جَعَلَ أَزْوَٰجَكُمُ ٱلَّـِٔى تُظَٰهِرُونَ مِنْهُنَّ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْ ۚ وَمَا جَعَلَ أَدْعِيَآءَكُمْ أَبْنَآءَكُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ قَوْلُكُم بِأَفْوَٰهِكُمْ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَقُولُ ٱلْحَقَّ وَهُوَ يَهْدِى ٱلسَّبِيلَ
“Allāh has not put for any man two hearts inside his body. Neither has He made your wives whom you declare to be like your mothers’ backs, your mothers, nor has He made your adopted sons your real sons. That is but your saying with your mouths. But Allāh says the truth, and He guides to the (Right) Way.”
(al-Aḥzāb 33:4)
Unlike a male, a woman indeed can have two hearts inside..her own and of her baby ..
