Fiʿl and ʿamal

Difference between فَعَلَ and عَمَلَ , which are both commonly translated as " to do ".

In Arabic, not all “doing” is the same:

🔹 فعل –
the most general sense: simply “to do ” without necessarily implying intention or purpose.

🔹 عمل –
a more specific action: something done deliberately, with intent and engagement.

the Prophet (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) said:
إِنَّمَا الأَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ
“ Actions are only by intentions .”

عَمِلَ صَالِحًا
is not merely “ doing good ” — it is performing a righteous deed with intention and purpose.

Now notice the Qurʾānic pattern:
ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا ٱلصَّٰلِحَاتِ
“ Those who believe and do righteous deeds ...”

First - belief and then it results in purposeful righteous action.
