An Arabic proverb about preparation
From the Proverbs of the Arabs
أَنْ تَرِدَ المَاءَ بِمَاءٍ أَكْيَسُ
“ To come to the water while already carrying water is wiser .”
This ancient Arabic proverb carries deep practical wisdom.
In Majmaʿ al-Amthāl, al-Maydānī explains its meaning:
if a person goes to a water source while still having water with him for his need, that is better than leaving what he already has, relying only on the assumption that he will certainly find water ahead.
Because he may arrive and find nothing.
